    Come and be part of our "New" program. We all volunteer to help others or because we believe in what an agency does. Come Volunteer at the Armed Services YMCA and give back to our Military Families who give so much . We at the Armed Services YMCA also like to give back to our Volunteers.   • Employment Opportunities

    School Age Counselors

    The Armed Services YMCA is looking to fill School Age Counselor positions. All positions are part-time. We are looking to hire counselors for both of our B&A programs in Virginia Beach (off Independence) and Norfolk (Sewells Point Elementary). All counselors must be energetic, dependable individuals who enjoy working with children ages 5-12. All counselors must meet the qualifications set forth by the Department of Social Services: At least 6 months of child care experience and at least 18 years of age. The School Age Counselor must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including: Current CPR/First Aide, certification 8 hours of ASYMCA orientation/child abuse training, be tested and found clear of tuberculosis, participate in necessary workshops which will enhance his or her learning, attend mandatory staff meetings and training's to meet Social Service requirements.

    Preschool Teachers Assistants

    The Armed Services YMCA is looking to fill positions available as Teacher’s Assistants in our preschool classrooms. This is a part-time position with a maximum of 30 hours per week. The ideal candidate must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Individual must also have a minimum of 6 months experience in licensed child care working with 2 and 3 year olds.

  • Volunteer Opportunities

    DEFY Mentor

    The Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads DEFY program is looking for active duty personal and/or DOD civilians to serve as Team Leaders for the 2008 DEFY Phase I program. Camp will focus on substance abuse prevention, gang resistance, physical fitness, citizenship, conflict resolution and self esteem development for youth ages 9 to 12 years.

    Volunteers need to be available for Phase I afternoon summer camp June 16- 26, 2008

    And for Phase II one day a weekend per month during the 2008 -2009 school year.

    People interested in volunteering should be:
    Highly motivated
    Interested in positively influencing the lives of military youth
    Attend all staff training
    Able to participate Monday through Friday, June 16- 26, 2008
    Have approval from your command to participate, and Required to be on two week, no cost TAD orders

    Tutors/Homework Assistance

    Handy Man Assistance

    Need a handy person with a few spare hours each week to help out at the ASYMCA with minor maintenance and repair. E-mail Bob Duetsch or call him at 363-1884 for more information.
